Photographing Children - Shoot them Naturally

Natural photo of child playing in the woods
June 2012
Babies don't sit still for long, and older children get bored or start to show off, so trying to get them to pose for a photograph can be an ordeal. Instead, I find it easier to let them play, run around, do what they usually do, and capture them in their environment.Photos that show them at play, with favourite toys, or giggling whilst chasing each other can show their personalities and trigger nostalgic moments years down the line. Children are less self-conscious when they are distracted and less pressured to look into the camera in a certain way. Always remember to use a fast shutter speed to freeze movement and produce a sharper image.
